You’re one of kind and so your projects are one of kind too. Whether it’s the perfect wedding suite, a distinctive business card or a notable postcard, we would love to work with you to create unique and distinctive paper pieces.
Working With Us
We generally start with a consultation to establish what you looking for and the scope of your project.
Then, we’ll provide you with some rough concepts. These will go through several rounds of revisions incorporating your feedback. The final digital proof will be provided for you to sign off on before commencing production on your job
Design work is generally billed by the hour. Tell us about your project and we can provide you with an estimate of design time required.
Once a digital proof has been okayed by you, we will order the plates needed for your project (one for each colour to be printed). If you’d like, we can make arrangement for you to do a ‘press check’ when we start printing. See details below.See Examples of Custom Work

Tips for Designing for Great Letterpress
Lines should be at least .25 point (0.003") wide. Thinner lines will not hold on the plate and won’t look as crisp. Also, check that the thin strokes on your text aren't too fine. Dots should be at least 1 point.
Letterpress is well suited to text but ensure that type is at least 6 points. Use at least 12 points or larger for reverse type.
Number of colours
As each colour used in a design requires a different plate and printing run on the press, the cost of a project increases with the number of colours you use. Generally, letterpress uses 1 to 2 spot colours but if your budget allows we’re happy to add as many additional colours as you want.
Letterpress is best suited for solid colours, not shades or gradients. If you require shading, dot screens and cross hatching can be effective.
Most of the inks we use are translucent which means they work best on light paper. It also means that overlapping two inks often gives you a “free” extra colour. Just keep in mind that a light colour printed on top of a dark colour or dark paper will not be visible.
Large Solid Areas
The nature of letterpress is that large solid areas of colour will appear slightly textured because of the way the paper shows through the ink. Large areas can also sometimes cause the paper to buckle slightly and the depth of impression will be less noticeable.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is custom work priced?
Pricing depends on the size, complexity and time required to complete a job. Contact us and we will provide you with an accurate quote after discussing the details of your job. It is always helpful to let us know your rough budget and then we can help you find the perfect solution.
Will I see proofs of my job?
We will provide you with a digital proof for you to okay before moving ahead with a job. Physical proofs or press checks are inherently difficult with letterpress because of the setup required. If you are local we can arrange to have you come by the shop as we start printing your order. We’re also happy to send photos as we start to print.
What colour inks do you have?
We custom mix all our colours so we can match the Pantone Solid Uncoated guide. We also have gold and silver inks. Just note that these inks are not the same as foil. They will have a muted lustre rather than the shine of foil. They do provide good coverage on dark or coloured papers.
What paper do you use?
We use Crane’s Lettra® Fluorescent White 110lb and 220lb as our house paper. This is a luxurious 100% cotton stock that is specifically designed for letterpress and takes an impression very well. We’re always happy to help you source a different stock if you prefer.
Do you require a deposit?
We’d love to help you plan out your project with a free design consultation either in person or on the phone. Once we’ve agreed on the quote and projects specs we require a 50% deposit to begin design or printing work.
What’s Your Turnaround?
Custom design work varies depending on the complexity of the job and the number of rounds of revisions required. It generally takes between 1 and 4 weeks. Once we have an approved digital proof of the final artwork, the printed job will be ready to ship within about 10 business days. If you require rush service please contact us and we’ll do whatever we can to accommodate.
